Dozens detained in Gujarat

Dozens of people across the state were detained as a preventive measure in view of the terror alert. In Kutch, the police detained two persons who were reportedly found taking pictures of a defence installation. The police also rounded up several people from Ahmedabad, Anand, Surat, Vadodara and Silvasa and questioned dozens of people who were using SIM cards procured on forged documents.

“These are all preventive measures that the police have been taken since the input was received,” said a top police officer. “Checking is still going on with the same intensity. We are focusing on villages bordering the Great Rann of Kutch and the coastal areas,” said A K Jadeja, Inspector General.

“Police came to our premises… Saturday and sought details of guests. They came back again after about one-and-a-half hours. Nothing untoward was found and we extended all support,” said Abdulsattar Akbany, trustee of Memon Sheth Haji Aboobakar Usman Sarvajanik Musafirkhana. The police also searched Hotel Noorani Mahal in the same locality. Jadeja said no specific inputs were received about the Musafirkhana and Noorani Mahal.

Meanwhile, an NSG team was deployed at the Somnath Temple, where Maha Shivratri festivities were held.
