The government is planning to complete work on the long-pending National Police Memorial in Delhi’s Chanakyapuri area by October 21, which is observed as Police Commemoration Day, Home Ministry officials said Tuesday.

“We are trying our best to complete work on the National Police Memorial by October 21, and the work has been fast-tracked. The necessary alterations to the plan have been made, and almost 60 per cent of the work being carried out by National Buildings Construction Corporation has been completed,” said a senior MHA official, who visited the site Tuesday.

While construction began in 2004, it was stalled after heritage activists approached the High Court claiming that the structure was not in accordance with the height allowed for any construction in the area.
