The Health Ministry Friday started constituting a technical group to monitor the spread of Zika virus. This comes a day after WHO warned the virus was spreading “explosively”. The WHO will convene an international health regulations emergency committee on Zika Monday.

On Friday, Health Minister J P Nadda held a meeting with microbiologists and epidemiologists from National Centre for Disease Control, ICMR, and AIIMS. Sources said officials were apprised that the National Institute of Virology, Pune, had readied the test for the virus. However, diagnostic kits to give faster results are not available and the ministry will start procuring them this week.
