Uttar Pradesh Police nabbed three robbers after a shootout that lasted nearly two hours in Thursday. Two of the robbers and a constable were injured in the fire exchange, said the police.
Police tracked down the robbers who were fleeing after looting Rs 25 lakh from three meat businessmen at Kharkhoda town in Hapur district, said a senior officer. While trying to evade the police, the robbers shot and injured constable Anil Choudhary, said a police officer. The constable received bullet injuries in his abdomen and leg and is undergoing treatment in hospital, the officer added.
DIG Ashutosh Kumar said the accused fled towards Modi Nagar in Ghaziabad after committing the crime. They started firing at police personnel who were chasing them on motorcycle and one police constable was injured in the firing. “The accused took away his rifle and then fled towards Niwari where they hid in a sugarcane field at Nangla Moosa village, and the thieves opened fire when the police surrounded them,” said the DIG.
The three accused were later identified as Rohini resident Amit alias Vicky, and Baghpat residents Pradeep and Vikas. While Amit and Pradeep suffered serious injuries during the operation and are undergoing treatment at a hospital, Vikas did not have serious injuries, said sources. The police recovered the stolen cash, parts of from some country-made pistols and between 30 and 35 live cartridges, said an officer.
