Despite the Home Ministry data showing a spurt in communal incidents in the country, MoS for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has cited a decreasing trend in the number of complaints received by the National Commission for Minorities to claim that the noise about intolerance over the past months was nothing but political posturing.

As per the figures cited by Naqvi, in 2012-13, the National Commission for Minorities received 2,127 complaints while in 2013-14 it received 2,639 complaints. In 2014-15, the number fell to 1,995 and till December 2015, the commission received 1,461 complaints.

“This clearly shows that the intolerance propaganda was all noise that was politically manufactured,” Naqvi said.
