Arguing against capital punishment for convict Mirza Himayat Baig in the German Bakery blast case, the defence Monday claimed that the prosecution’s video evidence was doctored.
The prosecution had relied on CCTV footage from inside the bakery to prove co-accused Yasin Bhatkal’s complicity as the planter of the bomb. The defence argued that the eatery did not have CCTV inside, and that most part of the prosecution’s video evidence was “fabricated”.
A sessions court had awarded death penalty to Baig for “masterminding” the explosion at the Pune eatery on February 13, 2010, which left 17 persons dead and several injured.
Defence counsel Mehmood Pracha will now address the court on the points of circumstantial evidence, which he believes does not, in any way, connect Baig to the conspiracy.
