Garment workers protest over PF in Bengaluru

Thousands of workers started gathering at Bommanahalli junction on the Hosur Road from 8.30 am Monday. The protest completely threw life out of gear in the area.

Over 25,000 garment industry workers staged a massive protest in Bengaluru over amendments to the Employees Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act. The protest resulted in a five-hour jam along the busy Hosur road in southeast Bengaluru.

Police were caught off guard as they had not received any prior notice of the protest. As workers suddenly gathered in large numbers below the Electronics City Expressway, police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the mob. Four policemen were injured after workers hurled stones at the police.
