TARGETING Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for his remarks against RSS, Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Irani, who was in Amethi on Sunday, said Rahul must visit his own constituency to see the work of the organisation for the poor.
Irani was addressing a gathering at the RSS-run Gram Bharti school in Dhammaur village in Amethi. According to BJP district vice-president Govind Singh Chauhan, Irani said that before making allegations against RSS, Rahul should see the kind of social work RSS swayamsevaks were doing while dedicating their lives to public welfare.
“Generations of Gandhi family never did what the RSS was doing for the cause of poor and the environment,” she said.
In March 2014, while addressing an election rally in Bhiwandi, Rahul had said, “RSS people killed Gandhiji and today their people talk of him. They opposed Sardar Patel and Gandhiji.”
Earlier, Irani inaugurated a two-day medical camp organised by RSS-affiliated Bhaurao Devras Nyas in Jagdishpur, where she slammed Rahul’s ongoing kisan yatra. “Notably, Rahul Gandhi, in some of his meetings in the state repeatedly said ‘pahle cycle ka pahiya puncture tha magar ab pura tyre hi fat gaya hai’ (earlier, the tyre of the cycle was puncture, but now it has burst), while he himself is moving around with a ‘khat’ (cot). But the Congress ran the government in the Centre for 10 years with support of the same ‘cycle’ and even won 2014 Lok Sabha election in Amethi with the SP’s support,” Irani said.
Taking a dig at the family feud in the ruling Samajwadi Party, Irani said, “Chacha-bhatije ki ladai me state me sab kuchh disturb ho gaya hai (The administration in the state has got paralysed due to the fight between ‘chacha’ (Shivpal Yadav) and ‘bhatija’ (Akhilesh Yadav)). It is not good.”
Irani further noted that it was disappointing to see that the Amethi administration has not provided land for Krishi Vigyan Kendra, which was approved by Union Agriculture Ministry. She added that the local administration has also not utilised the funds that Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had provided for procurement of fire tenders for Musafirkhana area.

Irani also visited Pipri village in Jagdishpur Assembly segment, where an embankment on Gomti river will be built by the Union Water Resources Ministry to prevent it from overflowing.
This was her first visit to Amethi after the cabinet reshuffle in July.
