For Ram Navami, Jharkhand bans meat and liquor for three days

The decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma.

The Jharkhand government has ordered a three-day ban — April 14 to 16 — on the sale of meat and liquor on the occasion of Ram Navami. The decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma.

While a press release by the state’s public relations department confirmed the ban, top officials claimed they were not aware about details of the order regarding the ban on the sale of meat.

Additional Chief Secretary N N Pandey, who attended the meeting, said: “We have got in touch with the excise department and the sale of liquor has been banned.” Asked if the meat ban had been ordered for the first time, he said: “I will have to get the details.” Another official said details will have to be checked.
