The state Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Thursday registered an FIR against Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh in connection with alleged financial wrongdoing when he was Madhya Pradesh CM.
Singh and the then Technical Education Minister Raja Pateria allegedly conspired with chairman of RKDF Institute of Science and Technology, Sunil Kapoor, to reduce the fine for illegal admissions from Rs 24 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh. The institute had illegally admitted 12 students between 2000 and 2002. When the technical education department learnt about the illegal admissions, it slapped a fine of 24 lakh on the institute.
Pateria and Kapoor submitted a proposal to reduce the fine to Rs 5 lakh. Singh, in turn, endorsed further reduction of Rs 2.5 lakh causing the exchequer a loss of Rs 21.50 lakh, the EOW alleged.
