Twenty-five people, including the son of former state Congress chief Arjun Modhwadia, were arrested Sunday for allegedly consuming alcohol at a party in Satellite area of the city, according to the police.
The Congress leader claimed the medical report of his son Parth establishes that he did not consume liquor.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided Asavari Apartments in the area past Saturday midnight, and found that liquor was being served at the party.
Consumption of liquor is prohibited in Gujarat.
“Following a tip-off, we conducted the raid around 12.30-12.45 am, and recovered a number of liquor bottles from the spot,” Sub-Inspector C B Jadeja said. “Subsequently, we sent 25 youths for medical examination and then released them on bail.”
Police have also sent blood samples of the youths to the forensic science laboratory for tests.
Modhwadia said, “It was the birthday party of his friend’s brother-in-law. He had gone there, but did not consume liquor.”
The Congress leader showed a medical report from Sola Civil Hospital, claiming that his son had tested negative for liquor consumption.
He alleged that the police raided the party to extort Rs 5 lakh from those who had organised it. “I have complained to DCP Vidhi Chaudhary in this regard, and she has assured to look into it,” he added.
Chaudhary could not be reached for comment.
