States ruled by non-BJP parties Tuesday registered their reservations about certain provisions of the Enemy Property (Amendment and Validation) Bill, 2016, at a meeting of the Rajya Sabha Select Committee, headed by Bhupender Yadav of the BJP.

Sources said that representatives of over a dozen states presented their views to the committee, and at least half of them flagged their concerns about the provision of retrospective application of the legislation, which seeks to render null and void any transaction of the “enemy property” even if it had been made prior to the enactment of the new law. The states ruled by the BJP, however, backed the Bill, the sources added.
