A principal sessions court here Monday sentenced an IT professional to death and his woman colleague to double life term after they were found guilty of murdering her three-year-old daughter and mother-in-law.

The accused, Nino Mathew (42) and Anu Santhi (33), had been project manager and team leader, respectively, in a software firm housed at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram when they were arrested in the double murder case in 2014.

A fine of Rs 50 lakh each was also imposed on them.

Judge V Shersy also called the brutal crime “rarest of the rare” and said that woman’s conduct was an insult to motherhood. Anu Santhi was spared from the death sentence as she was a woman.
