FORMER CONGRESS MLA Kripashankar Singh has filed a discharge application before a special court in Mumbai in a disproportionate assets case against him, filed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Singh has claimed that his prosecution is ‘without authority’ claiming that the ACB filed a chargesheet against him only in May 2015 after he ceased to be an MLA.

Singh claims that when he was an MLA till 2014, the prosecuting agency’s application to the Speaker for his sanction to proceed had been rejected twice. The first time the prosecuting agency applied for sanction to the Speaker, it was rejected by the Speaker by an order dated June 14, 2014, the application states. He has submitted that the plea was rejected again in October 2014 after the prosecution could not produce any new material. The court will hear the application next month.
