Incidentally, when the woman booked the cab, she received a message from Ola that Singh would pick her up. Police later found out that he had rented his vehicle to Balraj.

A police officer said, “The woman had booked the cab at 6 pm from Gurgaon. The driver requested her to sit in the front seat. He tried to interact with the woman and wanted a photo with her. He also misbehaved with the woman and kissed her, following which a minor scuffle broke out between the two.”

He added that the woman managed to take a photo of the driver before he dropped her at Govindpuri. However, police said the woman’s statement did not mention anything about the driver deleting her messages.

According to police, a team was formed under the supervision of Inspector Sanjeev Kumar to trace the accused. “As per the registration papers, the car belonged to Singh. However, Balraj was using the mobile number registered with Ola. It was tracked to Gurgaon and Balraj was apprehended,” said an officer. Singh will also be called for questioning, he added.

The woman’s statement was recorded Sunday in front of a magistrate, said police. The woman had come to India on a tourist visa in February. Police said she left the country Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, Sushma Swaraj sought a report on the incident.

“I have asked Lt Governor Delhi for a report on the molestation of a Belgian girl by a Cab driver.”

“We are committed to the safety and security of all foreign nationals in India,” she said in a series of tweets.
