Darbhanga Police and the Special Task Force Saturday arrested the sister and brother-in-law of Satish Jha, leader of an extortion syndicate who is in jail in connection with the killing of two engineers at Baheri, Darbhanga, on December 26 last year.
Munni Devi, pramukh of Baheri block, and her husband Sanjay Lal Dev were arrested from Darbhanga station. Though the STF had questioned Munni Devi after the killing of the two engineers at Gangdah — the village Sanjay belongs to — she had been let go. Dev’s brother Pintu Lal Dev was arrested soon after the incident.
Darbhanga SSP A K Satyarthi said they were probing if the the couple was involved in the murders of engineers Mukesh Kumar and Brajesh Kumar, who had been working with a construction company. Jha’s gang members Mukesh Pathak and Vikas Jha are alleged to have demanded extortion from the company.
Sources said Munni Devi and Sanjay were nabbed on suspicion of protecting Jha’s gang members. “Since the incident took place at Munni Devi’s village, she is under scanner,” said a policeman. So far, 12 people have been nabbed in connection with the case.
