Nine days after the meat examination report in the Dadri lynching case from a forensic lab in Mathura stated the sample belonged to a cow or it’s progeny, a petition seeking registration of an FIR against Mohammad Akhlaq’s family was filed in a local court. The matter has been listed for hearing on June 13.
Urging the Surajpur court to direct the police to register an FIR against Akhlaq’s family members on charges of cow slaughter and animal cruelty, the petition, filed by Bisara resident Surajpal, said another resident of the village had seen Akhlaq’s family slaughter a calf (bull) on the afternoon of October 25.

“That Akhlaq and his family members had slaughtered a calf (bull), which was associated with the faith of village residents, on the occasion of Eid. The aforementioned names had witnessed the event but they did not get a complaint registered or name themselves because of the fear of the administration and police. On 02.06.2016, this complaint has been submitted to Jharcha police but… they gave the petitioner a receipt of his complaint, assuring him of a probe,” the petition read.
According to the petition, a stray calf (bull) from Bisara village had gone missing and was allegedly slaughtered by Akhlaq, his brother and other family members. The petitioner said a group of residents had seen Akhlaq throw some meat in a polythene bag near Bada transformer in the village.
The petitioner said Akhlaq, on September 28 night, was stopped near Bada transformer by some residents, while others reached his house and found a vessel with remains of some animal and meat. The petitioner claimed the mob got out of control and beat up Akhlaq and his son Danish. Akhlaq was beaten to death.
