In a serious attack on state party leadership, former Congress MP Jagdish Thakore alleged on Wednesday that “the grip of Congress leaders having sympathy with BJP and doing their personal and family business with the help of BJP leaders and ministers, has strengthened over the party apparatus”.

In an exclusive interview to the Indian Express today, he said: “They are the very same people who don’t want the Congress come to power in the state. They are doing everything at their command to prevent the Congress from capturing power BJP in the state”. The Congress is out of power in the state since 1995. Demanding that the party be “freed from such people by throwing them out of the party”, Thakore said that the “Congress can never regain power in the state till people are thrown out”.

However, he refused to name them saying everybody in the party as also outside knew about these elements. But he said that “such elements are not only in Gujarat but also in Delhi”.

“I am against all those who are interested in defeat of the party in 2017 assembly elections”, he pledged. Asked if he would contest 2017 assembly elections on Congress ticket, Thakore repleid, “I made it very clear to state party chief Bharatsinh Solanki and leader of opposition in the state assembly shankersinh vaghela that I will not fight elections as long as the duo-Solanki and Vaghela-are at the helm of affairs in the party”.

“I will not allow those to live in peace who are disturbing the sleep of Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi,” he declared. Asked if he planned to quit the Congress, Thakore said: “I will be in the Congress and work for the party till the last breath of my life. There is no question of quitting the Congress. Sonia Gandhi is like mother to me and Rahul Gandhi as a brother”.

“But I will certainly continue the fight against those who are weakening the party,” he announced.
