Coast Guard rescues eight persons from a sinking dhow off Kerala coast

The dhow, which was a ferry between Beypore and Androth, sunk after one of the plank gave away resulting in flooding and sinking.

The Coast Guard on wee hours of Saturday morning rescued eight persons from a sinking dhow off Beypore coast in Kerala.

After a tip-off from a motor vessel Hafina Asia, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai alerted patrol boat ICGS Abhinav to divert to the location for rescue operations. The motor vessel Hafina was also asked to proceed to the location which rescued all eight crew onboard MSV Selvematha at 4:40 AM.

The dhow, which was a ferry between Beypore and Androth, sunk after one of the plank gave away resulting in flooding and sinking.

The rescued persons were taken to Kochi for handing over to the owner through police.
