MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Friday ordered scrapping of the 100 liquor bottles rule from the new excise policy that was to come in force from April 1. The provision was criticised by many after it was formally announced by Finance Minister Jayant Malaiyya in Indore on Thursday.

Those earning more than Rs 10 lakh a year could have stocked 100 bottles after getting a licence for Rs 10,000. Chouhan had in 2010 announced that he would not allow any new liquor shop to be set up.

While approving the new policy he had again shot down a proposal for new shops and to let country shops sell IMFL.
