The Tamil Nadu government on Monday moved the Supreme Court against the Madras High Court order for deploying the CISF inside the High Court premises at Chennai and Madurai benches in the wake of a lawyers’ protest.
The petition said that the High Court had erred in directing local police to work with the CISF, contending that such an arrangement would lead to the possibility of “severe confusion” in emergency situations.
The state government claimed the “High Court being a public premises where it is required to deal with public at large, police personnel who are well versed with the local customs and language will be able to render more efficient services”.
The petition also denied any lapse on the part of the Tamil Nadu Police in protecting the Madras High Court and its judges.
