Chandigarh: Model jail complex, Sec 51 Shopping complex, community centre inaugurated

To facilitate the jail employees and families of the inmates, the administration has set up a shopping complex and a community centre in the Model Jail Complex, Sector 51.

Inaugurated by MP Kirron Kher on Sunday, the shopping complex, which has been constructed at Rs 1.33 crore, has a room where products made by the inmates will be sold. There are four shops in the complex, tenders for which will be floated soon. Sources said two of the shops will be kept for eatables.

“The families of the inmates who come to the jail and stay for hours had no such facility. There was also no such complex for the residents in the sector. So, we decided to come up with this in the jail complex, which would facilitate visitors, jail staff and residents,” said chief engineer Mukesh Anand.
