An angry mob set ablaze a truck after rescuing nearly two dozen cattle at Narian on Thursday. They also disrupted traffic on the Rajouri-Poonch road for nearly four hours.

Sources said that the truck, which was on its way to Kashmir, met with a minor accident at Narain as it hit a roadside drain. When locals reached the spot to help the driver, they found that nearly two dozen bovines, including cows, were being transported.

As news spread, people started gathering there. Sensing trouble, the occupants of the truck fled. Later, the locals rescued the cattle and set the vehicle on fire.

They also blocked the Rajouri-Poonch road, demanding action against policemen deployed at nearly a dozen check-posts between Jammu and Narian, which the truck might have crossed on its way to Kashmir. The blockade was lifted after police reached the spot and assured the locals of stern action against the alleged cattle smugglers and the policemen.
