Nearly four months after her murder-accused son disappeared while on anticipatory bail, Gayatri Devi Puar was named the BJP candidate from Dewas Assembly seat on Sunday. The bypoll, slated for November 21, was necessitated after the death of her husband, Tukoji Rao Puar, in June.
The party also recommended the name of Petlawad MLA Nirmala Bhuria as its candidate for the Ratlam Lok Sabha seat. The bypoll here was necessitated due to the death of BJP MP and Nirmala’s father, Dilip Bhuria.
The constituency, spread over Jhabua, Alirajpur and Ratlam districts, is considered crucial for the BJP because the party won it for the first time in 2014.
Interestingly, Petlawad is the same place where a blast caused by mining explosives claimed several lives. Before the election was announced, the BJP organised a religious event in the town. The Congress complained to the EC alleging that thousands of sarees were distributed to women during the function.
