Sources said people have become more aware of suspicious movements by anyone around newborns after the CID buster an inter-state trafficking racket. Locals had lodged a complaint at Burdwan police station against Bibi, who was allegedly seen near the nursing home with a baby. Upon being questioned by locals, Bibi allegedly confessed that the newborn was not hers, and that she had procured the baby from Mahantuli Life nursing home. She told them the baby was given to her by a caretaker there, Sandhya Dutta. As per sources, an unmarried mother had left her child at the nursing home after delivery.
Dutta then allegedly handed over the newborn to Bibi. The newborn, which was born this Sunday, has been sent to Burdwan medical college, and is doing well, sources said.
“We are interrogating to find out if there was any commercial deal between the three. What was the intention of the supplier and receiver?
“It is being investigated if this nursing home had anything to do with the interstate racket. We are interrogating them to see whether they have a network,” said an official.
