In a pre-dawn operation on Monday, Border Security Force (BSF) recovered an AK-47 rifle along with a magazine from the property of noted arms and drug smuggler Balwant Singh.

Since May last year, Singh has been in jail in Ferozepur after he was caught smuggling 21 kg Heroin in November 2014.

In view of the vulnerability of border areas and heightened smuggling activities in the recent past, BSF IG B R Meghwal had issued guidelines to all sectors under the Rajasthan Frontier to strengthen the intelligence grid so as to effectively check anti-national activities.

The BSF recently received specific input about the rifle that Singh had managed to conceal before he was arrested for smuggling in November 2014.

At 4 am, a BSF “G” branch team raided Singh’s house at Rawala Mandi in Sriganganagar district. Despite a substantial search operation, the team couldn’t find anything. However, at about 7 am, the team’s efforts paid off and they recovered a gunny bag containing the rifle and a magazine from a vacant plot of land adjacent to the house.
