BJP MP’s ‘scientific’ rationale: ghee, grains in yagna bring rain

Participating in a short-duration discussion on sustainable development goals, BJP MP Virendra Singh said the last time there was a discussion on drought he had suggested conducting a yagna to invite rains.

Ghee offered to fire in a yagna becomes Oxygen and the grains become Hydrogen – together, they become water. This is the “scientific” solution Virendra Singh, the BJP MP from Bhadohi in UP, offered in Lok Sabha on Friday to tackle the problem of drought situation.

Participating in a short-duration discussion on sustainable development goals, Singh said the last time there was a discussion on drought he had suggested conducting a yagna to invite rains. Although accused of being regressive at the time, his suggestion had a scientific basis, Singh insisted.

He went on to explain: “Havan is done with agricultural produce which include, ghee, milk, barley, sesame seeds and other grains. There are students of Science sitting here, and it has been proven scientifically that ghee, when offered to fire, produces 300 per cent Oxygen. Science students also say that two units of Hydrogen and one unit of Oxygen make water….

“I ask Science students: I say that havan of ghee produces Oxygen and havan of agricultural produce produces Hydrogen, you prove whether the two make water.”

Singh also said India can successfully walk on the path of development by “following its great culture and glorious tradition”. Copying Western methods, he insisted, will only take the country towards destruction. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the MP added, “Only a person with a chest of 56 inches can lead India on the path of development.”
