RJD’s Saharsa MLA Arun Kumar Yadav and his two sons — Amrendra Kumar Yadav and Gautam Kumar Yadav — have been booked for allegedly beating up and threatening over a dozen Scheduled Caste construction workers in Aaran village under Bihara police station. The ruling party MLA and his sons were allegedly trying to usurp a plot of land, which belongs to a fellow villager.
The case was lodged on August 19 under IPC sections 323 (causing hurt), 329 (causing grievous hurt with intent to extort property), 504 (intentional insult with intent to cause breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intentions) and also under provisions of the SC/ST Act.
In the FIR, complainant Sanjay Sharma said: “As 13 people, including me, were digging earth to raise a boundary wall at the plot of Panna Kamesh, Amrendra and Gautam, sons of the MLA came with Alauddin and started abusing and later beating us with bricks and a spade”.
Sharma later said: “Since he (the MLA) enjoys clout, he wants to bully my owner, who does not live here and has left it to me to take care of the fencing work.”
While the RJD MLA was not available for comments, his party spokesperson Mritunjay Tiwari said: “The police have been doing their duty and there is no question of defending our MLA if he is in the wrong”.
JD (U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said: “The fact that one can file a case against a ruling party MLA shows there is rule of law in the state. Let the police investigate the matter thoroughly.”
