Unidentified body of a 30-year-old woman was found in a class room of a government middle school in a village under Hunterganj police station area of Chatra district on Thursday.
The police said that the woman, whose hands were tied and mouth gagged, may have been strangled. The possibility of sexual assault has not been ruled out. Liquor bottles were also recovered from the room, the police said.
According to the police, the information about the body was received around 10.30 a.m., when some villagers complained of foul smell coming from the school in Kedali village. “The body had begun getting decomposed, indicating that the death may have occurred a couple of days ago. Her mouth was gagged and the hands were tied. It appears that she may have been strangled, as there are no evident physical injury marks,” said Inspector (Hunterganj) Ram Awadh Singh.
Singh added that, with summer vacations on, there was no guard in the school. “The room, where the body was found, was also not locked,” he said.
A search of the room led to recovery of a liquor bottle and left-over food. “One liquor bottle was also found in her purse, which was recovered from the spot. However, there was no identity card or any document, which could help us identify the woman. We are looking for any missing complaint registered in nearby police stations,” said Singh. The clothes worn by the victim and other material found on the spot have been seized for further forensic analysis. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
