Bhubaneswar: 4 killed in restaurant blast

The blast in Seven Miles Restaurant at Khandagiri occurred when a cracker landed on the generator placed outside the restaurant.

A massive explosion in a Bhubaneswar restaurant on Tuesday evening killed four people and injured as many.

The blast in Seven Miles Restaurant at Khandagiri occurred when a cracker landed on the generator placed outside the restaurant.

Some of the employees of the restaurants were bursting crackers when one of the crackers landed on the generator, leading to the explosion. The deceased include two security men and one hotel staff, said Khandagiri police station inspector Sarat Sahoo. The fourth victim could not be identified.

Doctors attending the injured people at two hospitals in city, said their condition was stable. “When I was coming out of the hotel, some people were lighting up fire crackers. The generator suddenly burst as it was hit by the cracker,’ said one of the injured who has been rushed to the Capital Hospital here.
