A 16-year-old pregnant girl died on Friday after she was allegedly fed poison in Bharatpur district, police said.
The girl’s father, who works in Hyderabad, told the police that his daughter’s health deteriorated on Thursday and was referred to Bharatpur, where she succumbed at about 1:30 am on Friday. “The father claims that on way to the hospital, she told that four youths who are also their neighbours — Irshad, Subedeen, Shabbir and Arif — had raped her about two and a half months ago. He said that she told him that Irshad and Subedeen’s father fed her poison under the pretext of giving an abortion pill,” Jurhara police station SHO Kesar Singh said. A postmortem examination confirmed that she was pregnant and was poisoned.
An FIR was lodged at the police station against the four under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 376 D (gang rape) as well as POCSO Act.
However, no accused has been apprehended yet.
Singh, however, said that it is not clear as to who fed the poison to the girl and they are investigating the girl’s father too. “We are also investigating a second possible explanation for her death. We’ve come to know that she was having an affair with one of the youths and became pregnant. It is also possible that her father fed the poison and then named the youths in his complaint to us,” Singh said.
