A 19-year-old private school teacher, who on Tuesday alleged that she was dragged into a moving car and raped by three men in Bareilly district, changed her statement Wednesday accusing her boyfriend of sexually assaulting her and making a video clip of the act.

The accused, Amit Rathore, also a teacher at a private school, was arrested after the woman’s statement was recorded before the magistrate. He has been booked on charges of rape. The accused’s laptop, cellphone and a pen drive have been seized, SSP, Bareilly, R K Bharadwaj said.

The SSP said that confronted with the evidence collected during preliminary investigation, the girl broke down and confessed to have cooked up the abduction and gangrape story as she feared Rathore (22) may upload her photographs on social media.

Bharadwaj said a police team collected CCTV footage from the cameras installed at various units in Bareilly Industrial Area — the place where the woman had claimed she was taken after being abducted in a white car and gangraped. The footage did not show any such car passing through any of the lanes in the area during the hours mentioned by the woman, he added.

The call details of the woman’s cellphone showed her location about seven kilometres away from the alleged abduction.

Bareilly teacher says wasn’t abducted and gangraped and the gangrape spots as mentioned by her on Tuesday. Her location was found in Saleh Nagar locality in Quila police station area of Bareilly city where Rathore lives, the SSP said.

Finding loopoholes in her story, police questioned the woman again sharing the details of the investigation following which she revealed the actual story, Bhardwaj added.

The girl told the police that she left her house Tuesday morning but instead of heading for her school, went to Rathore’s house, located about four kilometres away from her residence.

Additional Superintendent of Police, City, Sameer Saurabh said, girl had been in a relationship with Rathore and wanted to marry him.

“She told police that Rathore had called up Monday night asking her to meet him on Tuesday. The woman alleged that when she reached his house, Rathore forced himself on her and also clicked photographs of the act. After leaving his house, the woman returned home while Rathore left for school,” the ASP said.

“She feared that Rathore could upload the photographs on Internet and thus she cooked up the story of kidnapping and gangrape,” he added.

The ASP said they have not found any such photographs in Rathore’s cellphone and laptop. “We will send them for lab test,” the ASP said, adding that they have yet to decide over action to be taken against the woman for lodging false complaint.

On Tuesday, the girl had alleged that three youths had abducted her while she from near her school on the Bareilly-Delhi National Highway-24. She had claimed that that accused took the vehicle to a secluded place in the Industrial Area and raped her. She had also claimed that the trio made video clippings of the incident and threatened to circulate it on social media if she lodged a complaint. A case was filed against unnamed accused on charges of kidnapping and gangrape at the CB Ganj police station. A medical examination of the girl was conducted and its report stated she had no injury on the body.

The allegation, coming three days after the gangrape of a mother and her teenage daughter in Bulandshahr, had led to an uproar with local BJP MLA Arun Kumar staging a dharna against the state government and demanding immediate arrest of the accused. In an immediate attempt at damage control, Inspector Rajesh Singh, posted at CB Ganj police station, was suspended by IG (Bareilly zone) Vijay Singh Meena.
