Condemning the murder of a Muslim youth, Mohammed Ayyub, in Ahmedabad allegedly by cow vigilantes, Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani Sunday demanded that the state government must prohibit all gau rakshak committees in the state which take law into their own hands in the name of cow protection. He also gave a call of Dalit-Muslim Unity and declared a public function in Bapunagar area of Ahmedabad Monday night in that regard.
Issuing a press release in this connection, Mevani said that Dalits will come in support of Muslims in the case of Ayyub in the same manner in which Muslims had come in support of Dalits in Una flogging case.
Mevani has already announced to launch a Rail Roko Andolan from October 1 in Maninagar area of Ahmedabad as part of the Dalit agitation in Gujarat. On Sunday, he declared that one of the major demands of the Rail Roko Andolan will be to prohibit all gau rakshak committees in Gujarat.
