A DAY after Punjab government referred the case of murderous attack on RSS state vice-president Brig (retd.) Jagdish Gagneja to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Jalandhar police are set to question four inmates of Ludhiana jail — including Shiv Sena youth wing’s Punjab president Amit Arora.
Ludhiana police had in June this year arrested Arora for allegedly orchestrating an attack on himself in order to get security cover. His employee Mani and two others, Samar D’Souza and Bharti Sandhu, were also arrested along with him.
A team of Jalandhar police Thursday brought the four on production warrants and produced them in Jalandhar court seeking their custodial interrogation in connection with the attack on Gagneja.
They were produced in the Court of Duty Magistrate Karanjit Singh who sent them in police remand for seven days.
“We have some leads in the attack on Jagdish Gagneja, for which we required the custodial interrogation of the four. Ludhiana jail inmates,” said Bhagwant Singh Bhullar, Additional Station House Officer, Police Station, Division 4.
Gagneja was shot at near Jyoti Chowk, one of the busiest areas of Jalandhar city, on August 6 evening. An FIR against two unidentified persons was lodged at Police Station, Division 4 in this regard.
Meanwhile, Jalandhar police have made necessary preparations to hand over the case to CBI. “We have got the FIR translated into English from Punjabi. A map of the spot of the attack and a complete report of investigations till date has been prepared. The moment we get directions from higher authorities to hand over the file to CBI, we shall do that,” a senior police officer told The Indian Express.
A police officer privy to the investigations of attack on Gagneja revealed that till date police have scanned footage of over 2,000 CCTV cameras installed on various roads leading to the spot where he was shot at.
While searching for clues about the assailants, police had even scanned CCTV footage on routes leading to other districts, including Ludhiana, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and Amritsar. However, nothing substantial could be found from the footage.
Gagneja is admitted at DMC Hospital in Ludhiana and there is yet no substantial improvement in his health.
RSS state media in-charge Ram Gopal, said, “Gagneja is still unconscious and on life-support system”.
