THE cultural cell of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday condemned the tweet of actor Rishi Kapoor and questioned the naming of important places in the country after the Gandhis.
Vikas Patil, president of the cultural cell of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, in a release said, “Actor Rishi Kapoor has tweeted that why many important places in India are named after Gandhis, as if these places are like fathers properties. Before making such defamatory statement about Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, Rishi Kapoor should have found time to study history of India and freedom struggle.”
Patil said, “We respect art and culture and also great artists. But all Gandhis have sacrificed their lives for this nation, to protect the hard-fought freedom, its unity.”
Patil said, “Rishi Kapoor has no stature to even talk about Gandhis without having known the history. We demand he should immediately take his statement back and apologise to the nation about his defamatory statement which has hurt the sentiments of all true Indians.
Otherwise we will not allow his shooting to take place anywhere in Maharashtra. Having able to only dance a few steps doesn’t mean he can comment on our national heroes. We definitely want great artists’ names should be given to important places.”
