Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who complained of pain in his stomach and abdomen on Saturday was admitted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital later in the evening. Hospital officials however said he was out of danger.
“The chief minister experienced abdominal upset in the morning, following which he complained of pain. While he was admitted to the hospital at around 8 pm on Saturday and has been put under observation after carrying out the necessary investigations, his condition is stable,” GMC hospital superintendent Dr Babul Bezbaruah said late Saturday evening.
Gogoi (82) who had undergone multiple surgeries including a by-pass in 2010, who holds record of being Assam chief minister for three consecutive terms since 2001, had only recently headed the hectic campaign of the Congress party in the just-concluded state assembly elections, during which he toured the entire length and breadth of the state.
