The BJP government in Jharkhand has decided to announce a slew of measures for Dalits and backward classes as part of the celebrations marking the 125th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar.

The state government will mark the celebrations from April 14 to 16. Initiating the celebrations, Chief Minister Raghubar Das Wednesday honoured nearly 2,000 sanitation workers of Ranchi Municipal Corporation with an incentive of Rs 1,000 each. Simultaneously, over 20,000 sanitation workers in all municipal bodies across the state were honoured.

“I saw that all sanitation workers whom we honoured wore hawai chappals (slippers). I promise that within two to three months, they will get shoes and a proper dress. Also, those who cover long distances for work will get bicycles,” said Das. He said that female sanitation workers will get sewing machines.

The government will provide equipment to labourers in the unorganised sector and organise “Garib Kalyan Mela” in every district to make Dalits and backward classes aware of government’s schemes. The CM is likely to announce establishment of a Scheduled Castes Commission.
