A local court in Sant Kabir Nagar district Friday sent UP’s Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, Laxmikant alias Pappu Nishad, to 14-day judicial custody in a case lodged in 2006. Nishad had been facing a non-bailable warrant issued from the court.
A first-term MLA, Laxmikant had won the election from Mehdawal constituency in Sant Kabir Nagar in 2012.
Superintendent of Police, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shailesh Kumar Pandey said, a complaint was filed against Laxmikant in a local court in 2006 on different charges including voluntarily causing hurt, house trespass and criminal intimidation.
“For non appearance, the court had issued non-bailable warrant against him. On Friday, Laxmikant appeared before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Gaur but was denied bail. The court remanded him in 14-day judicial custody,” said SP, adding that minister has been sent to Basti district jail.
The court has fixed Monday as next date for hearing, the SP said. Laxmikant’s lawyer Krishna Chand Srivastav said the minister had approached the Allahabad High Court, which had ordered him to surrender in the lower court within 15 days.
