The leaders and activists of the Women Unity are working in this particular company controlled by Tata Global Beverages.
The agitation has given rise to a new leaders from the leaf plucking pool of estate workers.
They fought for hike in bonus and forced the management to climb down from its adamant stand. The women agitation had later churned the state’s plantation sector where labour unrest is still on.
The agitation of the women unity forced the trade unions to launch stir for a hike in the daily wages from Rs. 232 to Rs. 500. Now, the plantation sector in Kerala including the Kannan Devan Hills Plantations Limited in Munnar, is witnessing stir for hike in wages. The managements have refused to hike wages on the ground that such a step would be disastrous for estate sector.
