Eight DAYS after a Dalit was killed at his brother’s farmhouse in Abohar, Avinash Doda accused the Congress, on Saturday, of playing politics over the incident.

On Friday Gurjant Lahoria’s kin, the second victim in the attack had alleged that Amit Doda, Avinash’s nephew, had called the murder victim, Bheem Tank to Shiv Lal Doda’s farmhouse.

“Though the names of my family members are being dragged in, they had nothing to do with this heinous crime. We are ready for any probe,” said Avinash Doda.

Avinash showed a picture of Wazir and Raja — two other accused in the case — standing with MLA Sunil Jakhar and said “Jakhar knows them (Wazir and Raja) and now he is defaming us.”

“Just because our farmhouse was where the crime took place does not automatically mean we were behind it. The whole family was in Delhi from December 9 to 11 as we were celebrating the silver jubilee of Shiv Lal’s wedding. So none of us had any clue of this crime,” he said. “Jakhar is playing dirty politics. My brother Shiv Lal Doda had contested the Vidhan Sabha polls in 2012 as an independent candidate and he got 42,000 votes against Jakhar’s 47,000 votes. He is insecure because of my brother’s popularity and he is trying every way to defame him.”

“Our family has always taken care of the interests of the Valmiki Samaj and we are their well wishers. We strongly condemn this crime,” he added.

“Let there be a CBI probe into this case. If I am the culprit, they should punish me,” responded Jakhar. “That they are able to hold a press conference and the police haven’t yet interrogated them is proof that they have the patronage of the Badals.”

“If a person gets a picture clicked with me, does that mean that they are known to me?” he asked.

Meanwhile, four persons arrested in the case Friday were sent to police custody by a local court till December 22. Police investigation revealed that Bheem had allegedly attacked at one of the accused’s father last year and had caused severe injuries. The police so far has not reacted to the Lahoria’s statement.

A police officer, who was earlier taken off the Abohar murder case for allegedly having stayed in Shiv Lal Doda’s farmhouse earlier, has been suspended for “negligence in handling the case”.
