ONE PERSON was brutally murdered and another critically injured at the farm house of liquor contractor and SAD supporter Shiv Lal Doda alias Sholly in Fazilka’s Abohar constituency on Friday afternoon.

Attackers chopped both legs and arms of one Bheem Tank, who belonged to Balmiki Samaj, while one leg and one arm of Tank’s friend Janta Lahoria were also chopped.

While Tank was declared dead, Lahoria remains critical and is undergoing treatment at an Amritsar hospital.

Following the incident, members of Balmiki Samaj set two liquor vends, belonging to the Doda Group, on fire, triggering tension in Abohar.

Heavy police force has been deployed in the area.

Abohar SSP Indermohan Singh Bhatti was on the spot to control the situation.

Information revealed that Sholly was not in town Friday, but a meeting was arranged at his farm house between two rival groups — Harry and Bheem Taank — for a compromise over a rape case registered in the recent past.

The Harry group had arrived at the venue with around 30 men, sources said.

Sholly has a number of liquor vends in Punjab and Rajasthan. He had also fielded his candidates in the recently held Municipal Council elections though he is not an office-bearer of SAD.

He is, however, often seen sharing stage with Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
