THE AAM Aadmi Party backed its Narela MLA Sharad Chauhan, who is in judicial custody on charges of abetment to suicide of a woman party worker, and alleged that Delhi Police’s inaction and negligence led the woman to take a drastic step.
AAP Tuesday released a note written by the party worker to Delhi government’s Public Grievance Management System (PGMS) shortly before she committed suicide, in which she alleges laxity by police.
“Both the FIR and the victim’s letter before she committed suicide make it clear that her repeated complaints to the Delhi Police were going unheard. When she approached AAP for help, Delhi Convener Dilip Pandey rushed to help her. The Delhi Commission for Women and the PGMS of the Chief Minister’s Office too pressurised Delhi Police to register a case in the matter,” Ashish Khetan, AAP national spokesperson, told reporters.
He added, “All these facts are mentioned in the letter… She had also complained of police’s shocking support to the accused, instead of taking action against him… The victim went on to describe how the accused repeatedly threatened her by challenging her, saying ‘Do what you can, even Kejriwal will not be able to save you… I will buy off police and escape from any action.’ The PGMS had written to police about this and the response from them received on June 30 was shocking. They said they had taken the investigating officer off the case but gave no assurance of any action against the accused.”

Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh alleged that the BJP was ‘politicising’ the issue while police “concocted” cases against AAP leaders.
“The BJP is merely playing politics over this issue and have no intention of ensuring that the victim gets justice. We demand strong action against the police officials who backed the accused in this case. They must be arrested and a case must be registered against them. The BJP and Delhi Police are maliciously concocting cases against AAP leaders in an attempt to discredit the party.”

In a counter-attack on the BJP, Singh said, “It is shocking that AAP leaders are being fixed in false cases, while no action has been taken against BJP leader from Uttarakhand Harak Singh Rawat against whom an FIR has been registered in a rape case.”
“The Centre and Delhi Police will not allow a serious investigation in the rape case against Rawat since providing security to the people of Delhi is not their objective at all. The BJP and the Delhi Police have made a complete mockery of democracy and the Constitution… they have created an Emergency-like environment in Delhi,” added the AAP leader.
