At least 16 villagers were killed by Naxals in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, according to ANI. Narayanpur is completely controlled by Maoists, with very little police action possible given the area’s inaccessibility to the administration.

“We have one body, while three more names of villagers killed by Naxals have been obtained. There are reports of others which we cannot confirm at this point. We are attempting to verify claims,” said DM Awasthi, Special DG Anti Naxal Ops, Chhattisgarh police.

“This is an act of desperation, we will give a befitting reply,” said Ajay Chandrakar, Chhattisgarh Home Minister.
