The Jaipur collectorate on Thursday received a bomb threat through an email, which later turned out to be a hoax, police said.

The email was received on the official email ID of Collector Jitendra Kumar Soni on Thursday morning. The collector informed the Jaipur Police Commissioner about the email received at 11:30 am and around 200 rooms in the collectorate were evacuated.

The entire building was checked thoroughly by the bomb disposal squad, Emergency Response Team and dog squad for more than two hours, but nothing suspicious was found, police said.

The email stated that an IED pipe bomb had been planted in the collectorate, DySP Dharamveer Singh told The Indian Express.

Singh said: “The email claimed that a bomb was planted in the collectorate over the weekend. It stated that it was done to “avenge the unfair treatment of (Tamil Nadu YouTuber) ‘Savukku’ Shankar in the 2G case and the custodial death of Sadiq Balwa.”

The email also claimed that the bomb was made at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Anna University’s MIT campus, Singh said.

An official working at the collectorate told The Indian Express that they came to know about the incident when police came to search the building. “Police asked us to vacate the office premises immediately. By afternoon, we resumed our work after the police team completed the searches,” the official said.
