Hathras stampede: Judicial panel to invite public to give statements

The three-member judicial commission investigating the Hathras stampede case said Sunday that a public notice will be issued inviting the residents and eyewitnesses to give their statements on the incident.

“ We are going to issue a notice to the public very soon, in which people will be called and their statements will be recorded. All the people concerned will be questioned…,” said the committee head and retired Allahabad HC judge Brijesh Kumar Shrivastava.

Earlier in the day, Shrivastava with other two panel members — former IAS officer Hemant Rao and former IPS officer Bhavesh Kumar — reached Hathras.

Asked about whether Suraj Pal alias Bhole Baba alias Narayan Sakaar Hari — the ‘godman’ at the centre of the stampede — will be questioned, the panel said, “We are not talking about any particular person. Whoever the commission needs to talk to, they will be called for questioning.”
