Religious preacher Suraj Pal, also known as Narayan Sakar Vishwa Hari or ‘Bhole Baba’, at whose satsang the Hathras stampede took place, was familiar with a notorious paper leak accused from Rajasthan, police say.
According to police, the preacher used to stay at Harshvardhan Meena’s place in Dausa whenever he visited Rajasthan. ADGP (Special Operations Group) V K Singh said Meena is the main accused in the Rajasthan 2020 Junior Engineer Exam (JEN) recruitment exam paper leak.
“In January we raided Meena’s house in Dausa in connection with the paper leak case. But before we reached, the Baba, who was staying there, ran away. He is not linked to the paper leak case,” said Singh.
The preacher used to organise satsangs at Meena’s house too, Singh said. In fact, posters and banners of the Baba are still pasted in front of the house.
He said that when some SOG officials saw pictures of the Hathras stampede in the media, they recognised that man as ‘Bhole Baba’ .
Meena had allegedly arranged government jobs for over 500 youth in various government departments in the past 15 years by leaking papers of various competitive examinations. As many as 20 who benefited are from his family. When the police seized documents of Meena’s lands in Jaipur, Dausa and Mahwa, benami property worth Rs 5 crore was discovered.
The SOG arrested Meena in February 2024.
