An IPS officer and three other policemen were on Monday suspended after they were found guilty of gross cheating in police recruitment process.
The State Home Department took the final decision after the Police Recruitment Board filed inquiry report of the incident in March this year.
In the report, ML Ninama (State Reserved Police Group XIII, Commandant), AL Chaudhary (ACP Rajkot Headquarters and RL Pandor (Police Inspector Rajkot headquarters) were held guilty of aiding cheating in the SI recruitment. The investigation also revealed that DSP R D Desai, who aided AL Chaudhary in cheating, was also suspended.
The recruitment board in its report to State Government had requested to initiate departmental action against these officers.
Two women candidates, Vinku Kunadia (constable with Amreli police) and Pooja Khuman (PT teacher) had appeared for the physical round of the Sub-Inspectors recruitment session held at Rajkot. ACP Chaudhary’s son was also participating in the SI recruitment.
According to the details of the investigation in the inquiry report, on February 16, Kunadia and Khuman appeared for the recruitment in Rajkot. During their turn to run in the 1600 metres race which is supposed to be finished in 9.5 minutes, the duo allegedly took a shot cut and entered the race from the middle finishing it in just 55 seconds.
Their act of cheating was caught in the CCTV cameras and women supervisor present at the spot noticed that these women were suddenly found at the finishing line but were not found from the start of the race at the running track. The supervisor had pulled them out of the race and reported the matter to recruitment authorities.
When the incident was happening, ACP AL Chaudhary, who was asked to supervise the recruitment, was found pushing for her son’s recruitment and allegedly sought favour from IPS officer ML Ninama.
The recruitment board had found that Ninama, instead of supervising the recruitment process, had allegedly made SRP jawaans drop the women candidates to the SRP grounds early morning before the recruitment process began and later sent Chaudhary’s son in his car at the ground. Chaudhary’s son was allegedly found sitting in the control room and looking through the details of the process.
Both Ninama and Chaudhary were aware of the short cut women candidates took for the run, as planned, to qualify in the physical round, the Police Recruitment Board officials observed.
The recruitment board in their report had also observed that such gross cheating in police recruitment process was not observed in last two decades. They were found ‘boldly cheating’ in the tests with connivance of police officers to qualify in the police recruitment.
State Home Minister Rajnikant Patel had spoken to the police recruitment board officials and promised ‘strictest action’ stating ‘no one would be spared’ for this gross cheating.
