Hardik Patel missing, Gujarat High Court hears plea past midnight at judge’s home

Hardik ducked a police nakabandi after a public meeting in Bayad town of Aravalli district even as 17 of his aides were arrested.

Hours after police cracked down Tuesday on Patidar reservation protesters and said their leader Hardik Patel was evading arrest, the Gujarat High Court, taking up a habeas corpus petition on the missing PAAS leader, decided to meet past midnight to hear the matter urgently.

A division bench led by Justice M R Shah was to hear the petition at his residence. Advocate B M Mangukiya, who filed the petition on behalf of one Ketan Patel, had approached Acting Chief Justice Jayant Patel with a plea for urgent hearing. The Acting CJ requested Justice Shah to hear the matter, Mangukiya said.
