A delegation of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Friday called on chief secretary Ganga Ram Aloria and submitted him a memorandum demanding increase in cash dole amount from Rs 60 to Rs 100 per victim of the flood in Amreli and other parts of the state.
Led by senior leader Naresh Raval, the delegation said that monetary assistance to victims of natural calamities be increased as the existing aid amounts were based on old paramters.
They said that since the prices of everything had increased sharply and hence, the existing rates of giving monetary assistance to the victims needed to be hiked.
Asking the state government to be pragmatic, it demanded hike in compensation to the family of the dead from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and compensation for the death of cattle and other animals to be paid on the market price of these animals.
The Congress leaders said that compensation on old rates would not be sufficient and be a mere joke.
They also demanded fair compensation for self-employed people and businessmen who suffered partial or total damage to their property and goods in the floods.
The Congress leaders said compensation to them was necessary to ensure that they were able to run their businesses again, without taking loans etc.
Besides Raval, the delegation comprised of Ashok Punjabi, Dr. Jitubhai Patel Nishit Vyas, Amiben Yagnik, Mihir Shah, Himansu Patel, Raj Kumar Gupta and Himmatsinh Patel.
