A day after three sisters of Shobhavad village of Talaja taluka in Bhavnagar filed separate complaints alleging they were raped by men from their own village, the Talaja police arrested three youth and a teenager in connection with the crime on Wednesday.

Mehul Chohla, Ashvin Chohla and Vipul Jadav, all residents of Shobhavad village and around 20 years in age, were arrested by police at 1:50 pm on Wednesday. A 17-year-old boy was also arrested with the three men, the police said.

The police said the victims had named the four as accused in their complaints filed late on Tuesday night.

“The victims, who are all minors, are claiming that the four raped them on separate occasions around one-and-half-year ago in a library. The library is located near the residence of the victims. After violating the girls, the accused threatened them to kill them if they told anybody about the incidents,” a police officer associated with the investigations said.

The police said two of the victims are sisters while the third is their cousin sister. The police further said that the eldest sister took Class XII examination this March while the younger sisters were also students. The girls did not tell anybody about the atrocity but broke down on Tuesday when their mother inquired.

“The minor boy is also a student. We are yet to do their primary interrogation,” the police officer further said.

The four have been booked for rape and under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
